To ensure an adequate availability of a high-performance infrastructure as the foundation for Germany's economic location in the future, it is necessary to expedite the approval processes and optimize the planning and execution procedures. In this regard, digital models known as Building Information Modeling (BIM) are intended to be utilized, which already find application in planning and execution. However, there is a need for clear requirements and procedures for the approval process.

The aim of this project is to develop the fundamental requirements and solutions for a digital, model-based approval in road infrastructure construction. This involves defining requirements for BIM models, analyzing existing legal regulations for approval procedures, developing digital review routines, and evaluating their implementation in a model-based approval process. The developed approach will be prototypically implemented in a construction project.

The first step involves analyzing the approval procedures to determine which documents can be replaced by BIM models. To enable a uniform and automated review, precise information requirements and digital review steps will be established. Concepts will also be developed to document the results of the approval procedures transparently and comprehensibly using the BIM models.

The expected results include the automation and acceleration of a portion of the approval process through the use of BIM models. The digital information requirements enable planners to structure the BIM models in a more uniform manner, thereby avoiding rework and the conversion into 2D plans. The use of a BIM model simplifies coordination efforts, as complex matters can be explained more easily.
