Digital Information Delivery for BIM-enabled Information Management in Infrastructure Operation and Maintenance

The successful operation and maintenance (O&M) of transportation infrastructure assets highly rely on adequate information management, in which seamless information exchange between all stakeholders involved in technical activities forms the essential foundation. Regarding the development of Building Information Modeling (BIM), using the associated methods and technologies enables effective collaborative workflows and improves information management.

However, the adoption of BIM in the infrastructure sector is still hindered by several issues. In particular, insufficient digitalization in the AECO industry, the preferred use of paper-based documentation and the heterogeneous information management systems lead to manual information delivery process.

Therefore, my research effort is to provide a BIM-enabled digital information delivery. This includes clear definitions of stakeholders’ responsibilities, information transfer integrated with engineers’ workflow, and digital information requirements. In addition, the research considers the adoption of feasible technical solutions based on Semantic Web Technology for applying information exchange. By addressing the above points, the transportation sector can benefit from enhanced information management for better O&M decision-making.
