Checked with AI - new ways of capturing buildings

29.03.2022

Bim Wintermeeting Angelina 3

At the BIM-Wintermeeting of the Mittelstand 4.0-Kompetenzzentrum Planen und Bauen, Angelina Aziz conveyed the possibilities that artificial intelligence offers for as-built recording.

In her lecture "Checked with AI - new ways of as-built recording", the research assistant first gave an introduction to the topic of AI and the various methods of machine learning. Then she went into the possible applications of AI in the construction industry and explained the current results that can be achieved through research.

The BIMKIT research project was also presented, in which AI is used for as-built modeling in structural and infrastructure engineering and for creating digital twins. The aim is to significantly accelerate the creation of digital twins and increase their quality. In BIMKIT, the IIB is primarily researching AI methods that will enable the evaluation of photos, point clouds and documents.

To illustrate how much AI speeds up the evaluation of data and what added value this offers for the enrichment of BIM models, Aziz is currently developing a demonstrator that visualizes the recognition of fire protection elements in photos.
