At the Chair of Computing in Engineering, an Excel tool was developed in the course of early research projects on the topic of property recording, which enables the recording of large quantities of properties and groups of properties at once. All mandatory and some optional attributes from the data schema of the standard can be captured via the tables of the workbook. A rudimentary recording of the relationships between properties and groups of properties is also possible via the Excel tool. More detailed documentation for capturing relationships and a list of optional attributes that cannot be captured via the Excel tool can be found in the documentation of the GitHub repository.
To be able to convert the collected and recorded attributes of the properties and groups of properties into a machine-readable format, the developed Excel tool has an XML converter implemented in Visual Basic. The XML files generated satisfy an XML schema (XSD) that reflects the syntax of the data model presented in DIN EN ISO 23386. The development of this schema also took place in earlier research projects at the Chair of Computing in Engineering.
