Hakan Bayer

Hakan Bayer is the newest research associate at the chair, he started in December last year. In the following interview, he talks about his previous academic career, his scientific fields of interest and what inspires him.

About Hakan:

Hakan Bayer is originally from Turkey, where he studied mechanical engineering at the Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul. After completing several internships, a German company in particular inspired him to start his master's degree in Germany. He decided to study Computational Engineering at the RUB. During his studies, he started to work as a research assistant at the IIB, because he was interested in AI and computer vision algorithms. Afterwards, he wrote a conference paper together with Angelina Aziz for the Forum Bauinformatik in Munich in 2022. Topic of the paper was "Object detection of the fire safety equipment images and videos using YOLOv5 neural network". Hakan wrote his master's thesis at the Chair of Fluid Process Engineering and thus continued to deal thematically with machine learning and AI.

His work at the IIB:

Now he working as a research associate and doctoral student. He is looking forward to further exploring his areas of interest, learning new things and improving his skills. Currently, Hakan is working on the research project BIMKIT. In the project, he investigates how information can be extracted from 2D drawings utilizing AI. On the other hand, he is writing and researching with some colleagues for several papers that will be published this year.

That inspires him:

In his free time, in addition to make oil paintings, he particularly enjoys sports. Especially jogging and swimming help him to relax. He also enjoys walks in the nature and traveling.
