On Monday, September 8, 2025, Angelina Aziz successfully defended her dissertation titled “Automating Fire Safety Inspections in Buildings Through Machine Learning and BIM Integration”.
In her dissertation, Angelina explores how machine learning can aid in verifying the presence and condition of fire safety equipment, and how its integration into BIM enables semi-automated rule checking in buildings, leading to safer and more efficient practices in the construction industry.
The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Markus König and Prof. R. Raymond Issa from the University of Florida, with Prof. Marc Wichern serving as chair of the defense committee.
