Within the research project ZIRKULAR-X, two research associates (m/f/d) are sought to collaboratively develop a digital, AI-supported infrastructure for the systematic recording and evaluation of building services systems (TGA) in accordance with circular economy principles.
AI-Supported Information Extraction and Analysis (Position 1)
You will research and develop AI-based methods for the automated analysis of heterogeneous as-built documentation on building services systems (TGA). This involves combining approaches from Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computer Vision (CV) to transform technical information from textual and visual sources into structured knowledge graphs. Your work will establish the data foundation for assessing and reusing technical components within circular construction. You are encouraged to apply if you already have experience with machine learning methods, NLP and/or CV, and are interested in applying them in the construction domain. Programming skills (e.g., Python), a systematic working style, and the motivation to further develop AI approaches for circular construction are expected.
Semantic Data Modeling and Knowledge Graphs (Position 2)
Your research will focus on developing a semantic data model to represent relationships between building services components, materials, and installation contexts. You will design a graph database and integrate Digital Product Passports (DPP) to systematically capture material flows and reuse potential. You are encouraged to apply if you have expertise in semantic modeling, ontologies, or knowledge graphs, and ideally experience with BIM, IFC, or comparable data models. Strong analytical thinking, an interest in circular construction concepts, and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research complete your profile.
Applications are open until March 2, 2026, exclusively via the applicant portal:
