On March 6, 2026, Liu Liu successfully defended her dissertation titled “BIM-enabled Information Delivery for Transportation Infrastructure Operation and Maintenance Using Semantic Web Technology.”
In her research, she investigated how the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) into Infrastructure Asset Management Systems (IAMS) can enhance engineering workflows during the operation and maintenance phase. Her work focused on the development of standardized processes and ontological linking approaches based on the Level of Information Need (LOIN) and Semantic Web technologies. Through practical case studies, including pavement inspection and bridge maintenance, she demonstrated how seamless information exchange between BIM models and existing systems, such as Bridge Management Systems and Pavement Management Systems, can be achieved.
The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Markus König (Ruhr-Universität Bochum) as first supervisor and Prof. Rade Hajdin (University of Belgrade) as second supervisor. The doctoral defense was chaired by Prof. Nina Nytus (Ruhr-Universität Bochum).
We sincerely congratulate Liu Liu on this outstanding achievement and wish her continued success in her professional and personal future.
