On May 15, 2026, Simon Kosse successfully defended his dissertation titled “A Modular
System Reference Architecture for Semantic Digital Twins in Precast Concrete Production.”
In his research, he examined how the digital representation of
production processes in precast concrete manufacturing can be improved through a modular
system reference architecture. The focus was on linking Industry
4.0 concepts, semantic modeling approaches, linked data technologies, and BIM-
based information models. Using two practical use cases at the element and
system levels, he demonstrated how digital twins can support monitoring, control, optimization, and adaptive
rescheduling in ongoing production.
The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Markus König (Ruhr University Bochum) as primary advisor and
Prof. Christopher Rausch (University of Texas at Austin) as secondary advisor. Prof. Peter Mark (Ruhr University Bochum)
chaired the defense.
We warmly congratulate Simon Kosse on this outstanding achievement and wish him
every success and all the best for his professional and personal future.
