Efficient logistics can significantly impact the success of a project: Meeting deadlines is crucial as delays can result in increased costs, missed opportunities, and dissatisfied customers. Efficient logistics can help prevent unnecessary costs associated with transportation delays, inventory stockouts or excesses, and inefficient use of resources. One key to achieve this is to have assembly sequences that are defined in detail.
However, it is widely acknowledged that the process of manually defining an assembly sequence is exceedingly time-consuming. It requires careful planning, coordination and sequencing of various tasks and components to ensure that the construction or assembly process progresses smoothly and efficiently.
But what if there are unexpected delays in delivery? Is the construction site then at a standstill? Can work continue somewhere else? If so, where?
It is therefore important to have the assembly sequence of structures generated automatically at the click of a button – if necessary several times in an iterative process, for example if a building object is not available. In the scope of my PhD thesis, I develope an methodology to automatically generate rule based step-by-step assembly sequences for arbitrary 3D building information models.
