Call: "Dataset creation for the detection of formwork on construction sites"

We need your support!
We want to intelligently detect the use of formwork on construction sites using camera-based methods. This requires a large image dataset that depicts formwork elements during transport, assembly and disassembly to develop a detection model for localization using machine learning.
This will enable a comparison between design and execution. But lots of images are needed to train an AI.

We are looking for construction companies that would like to support research in the construction industry in the simplest way possible and thus make an active contribution to digitalization.

Good examples - What is needed?

  • Content of the images should contain formwork elements that are either transported, assembled or disassembled
     
  • Minimum resolution 1280 x 720
     
  • Distance from 10 to about 100 meters to the subject - like different perspectives
     
  • Pictures must be well focused, illuminated and sharp (foreground and background)

  • The formwork elements should occupy at least 1/4 of the picture
     
  • Pictures of individual (erected) formwork are welcome
     
  • If possible, avoid backlighting for better recognition
     
  • Pictures at different times of day and weather conditions are also welcome


Bad examples - What should be avoided?

  • Scaffolding obscures the formwork elements - poor detection
     
  • Formwork should not be obscured by other objects such as construction machinery or people
     
  • Strong blurring of the image or other causes that make it impossible for a person to recognize the object itself well must be avoided

  • Fence overlays the formwork elements, making recognition significantly more difficult or even impossible
     
  • For privacy reasons, the recording of faces or other personally identifiable information of personnel should be avoided unless the personnel has explicitly consented to the recording
