Sherief Ali

Sherief Ali joined our team as a research assistant at the beginning of March. In this interview, he talks about his academic career so far, tells us about his scientific interests in the field of construction informatics and what excites him beyond that.

About Sherief:

Sherief Ali completed his bachelor's degree in Egypt at the German University in Cairo (GUC). He then went to TUM in Munich in 2019 and completed his master's degree in civil engineering. In addition, he worked as a HiWi at the Chair of Computational Modeling and Simulation during that time, which increased his enthusiasm for the subject. His master thesis was entitled: "Automatic classification and consistency verification of construction drawings using deep learning".

After his master's, he moved to the Technical University of Dresden and began his work there as a doctoral student. During this time, Sherief focused on the topics "Construction contract management using natural language processing" and "Real time construction progress monitoring using digital twin", on which he conducted research with students. Now he joins us at the chair.

His area of research and focus with us:

Sherief's research areas are specifically in the areas of code compliance verification using natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning. He plans to focus on using NLP techniques to automatically detect and extract building codes from standards texts to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the construction process.

That inspires him:

In his free time, Sherief loves to travel, visiting cities he hasn't seen yet and meeting new people.

Great to have you here!
