Lisa von Rössing

Since September 2024, Lisa von Rössing has been a research assistant at the Chair. In this interview, she talks about her academic career to date, her scientific interests in the field of construction informatics and what inspires her.

About Lisa:

The 29-year-old comes from the Ruhr area and brings with her not only a passion for computer science, but also exciting approaches and a particular interest in sustainability. Lisa originally studied engineering, but computer science never let go of her. Through a mentoring program and the support of her course director, she finally found her way into the world of construction informatics: "I've always had a passion for computer science. Through a mentoring program and a thesis here at the chair, I realized that I wanted to focus on it."

Research focus: Visually detecting damage

Lisa's current research project deals with the visual detection of damage. The aim is to use artificial intelligence (AI) not only to localize damage in images, but also to obtain precise information about its type, size and development: "I want to be able to show my AI a picture and it will then tell me where the damage is, what kind of damage it is and how it has changed recently."

Enthusiasm for sustainability

A particular highlight of her work for Lisa is the new collaborative research center with a focus on sustainability. Her enthusiasm for it is no coincidence: "Since I originally studied with a focus on sustainability, I think it's great that this topic is now explicitly included here."

Inspiration in everyday life

When asked which developments in IT in construction she finds particularly exciting, Lisa emphasizes the variety of small but significant advances: "There are many small developments that are exciting. I'm excited to see what else develops from them in the near future." Her curiosity and enthusiasm for new things are also evident outside of work: In her free time, Lisa enjoys reading science fiction and fantasy, going running and spending time in her small garden.

Favorite places and wishes

Your favorite place in the office? The view of the forest, especially in the morning: "I think it's really great, especially in the morning, when the fog is over the forest and you can see the sunrise."

If Lisa had one wish, it would be a more efficient workday: "You always have a to-do list for the day with things you'd like to do, but as the day goes on, new tasks keep cropping up. In the end, half of it often remains unfinished. I would have liked to have completed my entire to-do list."

We're happy to have Lisa on our team!
