Leonie Zimmermann

Since mid-February, Leonie Zimmermann has been strengthening the team at the Chair of Computing in Engineering as a research associate. In an interview, she talks about her academic journey so far, shares her scientific interests in the field of construction informatics, and reveals what else excites her.

From Student Assistant to Research Associate

Leonie Zimmermann has been part of the chair for six years, initially working as a student assistant and, since mid-February, in her new role as a research associate. During this time, she has gained many exciting insights, deepened her enthusiasm for construction informatics, and discovered her passion for research: "Six years ago, I was sitting in the 'Object-Oriented Modeling' exercise and thought to myself that I would love to be the tutor. Coincidentally, a position had just been advertised, so I applied and quickly realized that the chair had so much more to offer. Over the years, I had the chance to explore different topics and realized that I wanted to be involved in research."

Research Focus: Sustainability in Construction

Leonie’s future research project focuses on the reuse of building materials, a topic she approaches with great enthusiasm. She finds the latest developments in construction informatics particularly exciting: "It’s great and important to see that the focus on sustainability is becoming increasingly stronger. We need this topic because it concerns all of our futures."

A Glimpse into Her Free Time

Outside of work, Leonie enjoys being active. She plays badminton and volleyball or takes walks along the Ruhr River. “As long as I’m moving!” she says. Her curiosity and enthusiasm for new experiences extend beyond her work: in her free time, Leonie loves to travel and is always eager to meet new people.

Favorite Places and Wishes

Her favorite spot at the office? The terrace above the cafeteria: "You can enjoy the view and the sunshine there!" If she had one wish, it would be for a balcony outside her office window—to get some fresh air and take in the view during lunch breaks.

We are happy to have Leonie on our team!
