Nina Krautgartner

Since April, Nina Krautgartner has been strengthening the team at the Chair of Computing in Engineering as a research associate. In an interview, she talks about her academic journey so far, shares her scientific interests in the field of construction informatics, and reveals what else excites her.

From Transport Logistics to Construction Informatics

Nina Krautgartner is originally from the Ruhr area and has already been part of the chair for two years. Now she’s starting her new role as a research associate. She originally worked in simulation and optimization field at the Institute of Transport Logistics in Dortmund. Her move to Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) for her master’s studies brought her to the Chair of Computing in Engineering:
"Since I wanted to further deepen my skills in optimization using AI and simultaneously bring in my experience in simulation, it was the perfect opportunity to develop my expertise and support the team."

Research Focus: Sustainability in the Construction Sector

Nina’s research centers on sustainability and the reuse of building components, as well as the integration of digital technologies in the development of a digital ecosystem. She is particularly excited about her work in the new Collaborative Research Center 1683 (SFB 1683):
"I’m looking forward to exploring these topics in an interdisciplinary environment."

Construction Informatics in Transition: Sustainability through Digitization

Nina is especially fascinated by the practical applications of theoretical computer science concepts:
"It’s interesting to see how digital methods can make real construction processes more sustainable while also advancing digitization in the construction industry."

Sports, Sunshine, and Science

Outside of work, Nina enjoys spending time with friends and family—preferably outdoors in the sun. Sports play a big role in her life, especially volleyball, which she plays in a club. She also enjoys following competitions in various sports and is generally enthusiastic about natural sciences and technological innovations:
"I find it exciting to see how others use similar technologies and what new ideas emerge from them."

Favorite Spots and Wishes

Although Nina doesn’t have a specific favorite spot on campus, she enjoys the view from the sixth floor of the office. If she could have one wish for her work at the chair, it would be:
"An unlimited budget for international conferences and research trips to gather new ideas."

We are happy to have Nina on our team!
