The reuse of building materials and components in construction has significant potential for reducing waste, conserving resources, and lowering costs. This project aims to develop a circular, municipal ecosystem that enables public and private construction clients to identify and record materials arising from demolition and renovation works at an early stage. In cooperation with local companies, these materials will be reused, repurposed, or recycled for new construction and conversion projects.
A central element of the project is a digital tool for planning, coordinating, and matching supply with demand. By integrating such a “match-making” function, the tool will allow targeted and efficient use of available resources. The approach will be developed and tested in the city of Münster, serving as a pilot for subsequent transfer to other municipalities and public institutions. The European Union and the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia are funding this project as part of the ERDF/JTF program NRW 2021-2027.
