Bridges are aging and deteriorating, and thus maintenance planning is crucial to ensure their functionality. Digital methods such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) can improve maintenance planning efficiency, resulting in cost savings. However, BIM requires digital building models, which are often not readily available. As a result, engineers have to create these models for existing buildings retrospectively, which is both time-consuming and laborious. Therefore, partially automating the creation of digital building models would reduce costs and increase the utilization of BIM during the operation and maintenance phase. In my research, I focus on extracting geometrical and semantic information from construction drawings using deep learning-based methods, which can be used to automate the process of creating digital building models.
