Construct-X is a joint research and development project involving around 40 partners from the trades, the construction industry, the software sector, research and development institutes, and associations. The aim is to work together to develop new digital and networked solutions for the construction industry and the trades in order to enable trustworthy and secure collaboration in planning and construction.
This three-year project involves developing federated data spaces based on open-source principles and a corresponding reference architecture, as well as cloud-edge applications for the construction sector. It also involves developing technologies for the multi-provider cloud-edge continuum, enabling the secure and latency-free provision and processing of data on construction sites.
Construct-X is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and the European Union and is part of the EU initiative IPCEI-CIS, Important Project of Common European Interest – Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services. The project therefore forms part of the EU’s strategy to strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty.
The Chair of Computing in Engineering contributes its proven expertise in the field of system architecture and software development for civil engineering to Construct-X. The aim is to create a seamless, interoperable, data-sovereign IT infrastructure that enables the secure and efficient exchange of information between construction companies, planners, suppliers, and other project stakeholders. The chair also brings extensive expertise in modelling data structures and the practical implementation of digital use cases to the project. Specific use cases, such as construction cost estimation and scheduling, will be developed in collaboration with project partners. Semantic data models, ontologies and reference processes will be developed to efficiently combine data from various sources, rendering it usable for planning and decision-making purposes.
