Applications of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) in the construction industry have the potential to transform processes, including maintenance, indoor navigation, and machine learning. AR devices display critical data immersively, allowing workers to interact with a building's digital twin using gestures and voice recognition. Research combines BIM, sensors and machine learning to increase AR viability, tackling indoor navigation and user interaction. Machine learning algorithms extract semantic information from AR sensors to improve digital twins and aid maintenance workers. Virtual Reality technologies, such as VR Headsets, allow interacting with BIM models immersively and interactively. New ways of working and teaching are developed for BIM-based construction, including safety training and planning, virtual inspection of machines, and collaborative modeling.
