The "Sustainability and Circularity" research group is dedicated to the development of innovative methods and software tools to promote resource efficiency and the circular economy in the construction industry. The focus is on approaches to waste avoidance, reuse and recycling over the entire life cycle of buildings - from the early design stages to the end of life. By integrating data rooms and digital twins, relevant information on materials, components and their reuse options is systematically recorded, managed and analysed. A particular focus is placed on Design for ReUse in order to enable subsequent dismantling and reuse as early as the planning phase.
In addition, the group is investigating how components and, in particular, concrete components can be prepared for reuse using suitable dismantling, testing and evaluation methods.
The research group is investigating how digital technologies and intelligent information systems can help to establish sustainable and circular processes in civil engineering and thus make a significant contribution to the transformation of the industry.
